About me

ABOUT ME I am a disabled multi-media artist who works with painting, fiber arts, sculpture, and installation, based in Toronto, Ontario. My work is marked by lived resilience, passionate survival, and the transition from sickness to beauty in imperfection. There, I find a new self, borne through the mourning of my former self that died in illness. A little wild with a flair for the dramatic, I began this era of creative work after my body retired me from midwifery, moving me from a world of birth into the beautiful world of making magic and art for survival. I live with multiple chronic illnesses and autoimmune diseases, am a breast cancer survivor, love Brazilian jiu-jitsu and practices of meditation, and adore my wild children.

I DAYDREAM AND MEDITATE WHEN I CANNOT CREATE I have dreams about what I will paint or create when my body needs me to rest. As I rest, I remember that whether shouting from rooftops for change or remaining within my shrine of home, the future is ours, today is ours. Georgia O’Keeffe said “It belongs to me. God told me if I painted it enough, I could have it”, and so I dream and paint every version of healing I can possibly imagine. I want the whole world and earth to heal, for everyone in every neighborhood and community to look out for each other with respect and care. I want to see us raise each other up, to build so that the oceans will come back to life and our children will have safer futures. I want capitalism to drown itself. I want us to all understand the medicines that grow in the cracks in our sidewalks and how they can heal us. I remember there is magic everywhere and lessons are gifts. I will paint my dreams until they become.

MISSION STATEMENT Through my creating I heal and through my healing I create. In my work I storytell my survival and resilience, and hope to inspire hope, healing, and courage for those who witness it. I share my work through public sharings, particularly where interaction with the work is available within the environment. My work and community engagement are intrinsically linked.
